Education
is our number one priority.
At the
Rutgers Department of Biomedical Engineering, superior teaching
is enriched by the commitment of our faculty to incorporate
new knowledge in our undergraduate and graduate courses, and
to actively involve students in the process of inquiry and
discovery. The faculty are dedicated to assuring that students
will achieve their fullest potential through challenging and
innovative bioengineering curricula that offer a rich menu
of disciplinary choices. For prospective graduate fellows, new prestigious training programs (NSF IGERT: Integrated Science and Engineering of Stem Cells; DOE GAANN: "Molecular, Cellular, and Nanosystems Bioengineering") have been launched to enrich students through crossdisciplinary experiences in bioengineering.
BME Undergraduate Program receives first Accreditation
The Department of Biomedical engineering is proud to announce that its Baccalaureate Program has been officially accredited by the Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., the recognized accrediting body for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. The Accreditation is retroactive to 2005.
Our faculty
is first-rate. The
faculty in the Rutgers Department of Biomedical Engineering
are leaders in promoting new ways of thinking and learning. They excel at
linking theory to practice in imaginative ways that
allow the academic experience to be enhanced by the latest
advances in scholarship and technology.
Our research is state of
the art.
Research within the Department of Biomedical Engineering is remarkable in that
it spans an incredibly wide spectrum of topics in biomedical engineering, bioengineering,
clinical engineering, biophysics, physiology, and biotechnology. Rutgers Bioengineering
students can select research advisors from over 80 faculty affiliated with the
department, all of whom direct modern laboratories located in either university,
medical school, teaching hospital, or industrial settings. In the 70's and 80's, research in the Biomedical Engineering department was most prominent in the development of many of today's most advanced cardiovascular and neurosystem related instruments and technologies. Today, Rutgers Bioengineering has become a recognized leader in many additional areas including: molecular systems bioengineering, biomaterials and tissue engineering, rehabilitation engineering, and biomedical imaging.

We stay on the cutting
edge. As part of our unstinting
devotion to excellence in bioengineering and biomedical engineering
research and teaching, our department maintains the nimbleness
to adapt our priorities and commitments to new opportunities
and challenges, and to the changing dynamics of the world
and of the university ecosystem. We constantly review and
incorporate into our program high impact biomedical engineering
advances that are published in prominent places, and discussed
in the international media. By staying abreast of the discipline's
breakthroughs, we exercise our habit of constantly pursuing
the best.
